After the fire...

Cape Peninsular Fires

On March 1st 2015 a fire started on the mountains of the Cape Peninsular. Due to the strong southeasterly winds the fire spread rapidly through the dry Fynbos. After four days the wind abated but not before destroying nearly 7000 hectares of mountain vegetation.

The fire raged above the fishing village of Hout Bay where I live and got very close to the main residential areas. There are many reports and amazing images of the fire and the firefighters on line, its old news now but still there to read if one is interested.

The smoke in the bay combined with the rising sun produced some spectacular atmospherics as the diffused light reflected off the sea - here are three of my captures taken on three mornings of the fire.
