Virtually every week I get notification via my plethora of Internet subscriptions and social media of a new digital camera with amazing technological advantages. Don’t get me wrong; I love camera technology, embracing totally, the remarkable image making of the digital age.

I used to read most reviews cover to cover assessing my current gear in relation to what potential images I could make. These days I simply don’t have the time, money, or indeed the patience to grind through the myriad of information presented by the camera manufactures and review pundits on the web.


As a Gallery owner, I make a living selling my own work and printing for other discerning photographer’s; I always maintain that the “acid-test” for any camera (sensor) – given reasonable photographic skills – is the final print, and indeed how large an image will print holding its integrity. The latter is a very simplistic statement in relation to the workflow involved but I’m sure you get the gist of what I am saying?


Seven year old technology in the digital camera business is considered ancient. Given my discussion herein, and the point of this blog post, I dug out a camera I bought seven years ago. At that time it was considered to be one of the best in it’s class, I went out and about and shot a range of subjects; hand-held - unusual for me as I normally shoot everything on a tripod.

Given my level of processing and printing expertise (I do consider myself as competent) I can print an excellent image at 90cm (long side) with well-exposed files and effective technique from this beautiful little 12MP camera.
